Old fop2 server no longer connecting with new browsers

  1. 11 years ago

    Hi there.

We purchased several fop2 licenses in 2010, version 2.20.

As our users update their browser to IE10 and the latest version of chrome, fop2 stops connecting. Researching, it seems that this is a websocket problem that was fixed in 2.22 and later.

Is our only option to get this working again to buy a license upgrade?

    Thanks,

    Phil

You can use older browsers too. Or install firefox and disable websockets via about:config

    http://www.fop2.com/blog/firefox-11-websockets-and-fop2

Or upgrade FOP2 to the latest version. FOP2 2.10 was released *BEFORE* all those newer browsers, *BEFORE* the websockets specifications evolved. You cannot expect it to work with every future browser over an evolving specification that is not yet finished, and it is *STILL* being updated.

That is why FOP2 was constantly updated over the years, to accompany evolution of technology. If you want to use an old version of FOP2, then use the technology that was available at that time, or upgrade FOP2.
